Lincoln Townley Princess Diana painting studded with diamonds sells for £1 million

Diamond-encrusted portrait of Princess Diana by contemporary British artist Lincoln Townley. The work sold for £1 million 20 years after her death in Paris. The oil painting, which is two metres square and has £100,000 worth of the jewels embedded in the canvas, took two months to be completed by painter Lincoln Townley. Townley also spent £20,000 on a frame studded with sapphires for his Diana piece. It is part of his Icons series which includes portraits of Al Pacino, David Bowie and Marlon Brando.
